Historical Background
The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 2010 G.C. Initially, the department focused on providing essential maternal and health services on a small scale. However, due to the increasing demand for high-quality care in the field of women's health, the department expanded its facilities and services in 2016 G.C. Over time, the department has been instrumental in driving progress in women's healthcare within the region. Currently, it receives referral patients from 10 health centers in Addis Ababa, 16 healthcare facilities (comprising 11 health centers and 5 hospitals) from the Oromia region, and 2 healthcare facilities from the Southern region. This demonstrates the department's significant impact and reach in providing essential healthcare services to women across various regions. The department also offers Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTC) services and provides comprehensive follow-up care to ensure the well-being of both mother and child.

- More than 5500 Vaginal Deliveries
- More than 3000 Cesarean Section (Surgical) Deliveries
- Over 650 High Risk Ward Admissions
- Over 5000 postnatal ward admission
- Over 9000 Antenatal care and outpatient case and follow ups

The department is equipped with an operation theater that includes two operating tables specifically designated for cesarean section deliveries and gynecological surgeries.

The department consists of a combined total of sixty-one beds, allocated in the following manner:
- 16 Beds in the Labor Ward (10 follow up beds, 3 delivery couch and 3 priming room beds)
- 17 Beds in the PostNatal Ward
- 8 Beds in the Gynecology Ward
- 4 Beds in the Septic Ward
- 8 Beds in the Recovery Ward
- 16 Beds in the High Risk ward
- 5 Beds in the Elective Preparation Room
- 6 Beds in the Emergency Ward

The department provides the mentioned services in both the public and private sectors. Public services are available during normal working hours on weekdays, while the private wing offers services after working hours during the week. However, emergency and inpatient services are still accessible outside of regular working hours, ensuring continuous coverage 24/7.

- Cervical cancer: screening using VIA, diagnostic tests (colposcopy) and treatment (LEEP and other ablative treatments)

- Major general gynecologic surgeries
